YOUCEE Conference 2022

Written by Cato, Senne, Evelyn and Laurien (4V1)

From September 14 to September 18, we participated in YOUCEE as a group. YOUCEE stands for European YOUth Conference commEmoration across borders. It is an international youth conference in commemoration of the second World War and in particular the Battle of Arnhem in 1944. We had the chance to participate on this because we do a TTO education.
Students from all different countries were invited to participate in this program. This year there were students from Canada, Germany, England and from the Netherlands. Every school was allowed to bring four students with them, so we were with quite a large group.

During those five days, we did many activities. Mainly we went to commemorations in or near Arnhem. Those commemorations were very special to experience, because we could see the commemoration up close. Also some of the participants of YOUCEE were allowed to lay a wreath. Not only did we go to commemorations, but we also did some other activities. For example, we did sport activities at the Orange Barracks, we watched documentaires and movies about the Battle of Arnhem, we had some conversations with veterans and we also went to the Airborne Museum in Oosterbeek. Further, we walked special routes which the soldiers also walked during the war, we went to the Ginkel Heath to watch the parachute droppings and on the last day we all layed some flowers at the Airborne Cemetry.

We think this YOUCEE program was very educational for us, because we learnt a lot about the Battle of Arnhem, which took place in our environment. We also think that it was a very special experience and we are very glad that we participated in this. Not only because of the great activities that we did, but also because we got to know students across our borders very-well.
